ALLsorts at the Swimarathon: fundraising, fulfilment and fun
On a cold Saturday morning in February the ALLsorts swimming team gathered at the Maidenhead Magnet pool for the Swimarathon. There was Zoe, Dougal, Nickie, Nicola, Becky, Tracey, Raksha, Samantha and Nigel. Everyone was ready and excited. The atmosphere was buzzing. “Let’s go!”
What a great team! They completed 66 lengths and raised an estimated £500 for Maidenhead Lions charities and ALLsorts funds. The command that Jesus gave us, to “Love one another” was put into action. Everyone used their swimming talents to help people in need. “Love one another” also shone out in the team’s enthusiasm and support for each other. And it was fun!
ALLsorts is a group of about 50 people with learning disabilities who meet once a month at St Mary’s Church in Maidenhead. The purpose is to show that God’s love is inclusive and for everyone. It is for ALLsorts of people.
The Swimarathon is an annual event in Maidenhead. ALLsorts took part for the fourth year running this year. Everyone is so keen to join in that there will be twenty swimmers in 2011.
