Reading Area Groups Walk
After days of rain it was a delight to see a cloudless sky over Purley on Thames on July 7th. Off with the raincoats and on with the shorts, t shirts and sunglasses, our happy band of around thirty walkers headed off for Mapledurham Lock and the promise of an ice cream on arrival. After a delightful walk through the river meadows, with only one near collision with the line of children from the local Primary School who were holding their school fete that afternoon, we arrived at the lock tearoom which our friendly lockkeeper, Laine, had opened up specially for us. Here we enjoyed a well earned rest, the longed for ice cream and watched the boats negotiating the lock.
Then we were back on the road again heading back to St Mary’s Church where we were welcomed by Roger, Sheila, Andrew and Brian who had a lovely afternoon tea ready for us. Having polished off Sheila’s delicious cakes, we were then treated to the World Premier of the Causeway Prospects Makaton DVD, shortly to be on sale through Causeway Prospects. We noticed one or two film stars were amongst the audience. We rounded the day off by singing and signing to Causeway songs and a few other favourites including ‘Amazing Grace and The Lord’s My Shepherd’. Judging by the smiles I think a splendid day was had by one and all. Oh and yes, we managed to raise some money as well. God is good!
We challenge you to have your own fundraising event and have a great time into the bargain!
