Prospects - Working with Adults with Learning Disabilities

A Show of True Love

2008-02 ValentinesCoffee3Prospects friends, staff, Causeway groups and supporters celebrated Valentine’s Day in a very special way by hosting dinners, lunches or even coffee mornings, all to celebrate “The Greatest Love of All”, the love of God and the love He gave us for one another.  At the same time the various events contributed to raising funds for the work of Prospects.

These inclusive celebrations all around the country were the perfect opportunity to demonstrate what Prospects is really all about. People who normally will not have the opportunity to do anything special on Valentine’s Day had a fantastic time and shared human love and friendship.

The simple idea of a Valentines meal took different shapes and forms according to the creativity of the hosts.  Some were dinners for friends in people’s homes, some took place in church halls for 20 to 30 people, one was even hosted in an office.  Valentine’s ‘Day’ became Valentine’s ‘Week’, dinners became lunches or whole mornings with cakes and coffee.  One thing all the celebrations had in common, apart from the great time had by all, was that they benefited the work of enabling people with learning disabilities to experience fuller lives, through the donations that were generated.

2008-02 ValentinesCoffee2We had over 40 people for our coffee morning, some staying all morning and others passing though.  We had a lovely time and hope that Causeway Prospects is blessed too.

We hosted a dinner at our home and invited two friends from Ravenswood Village who came with their carer; we invited two other friends from church to share the occasion with us. As the Theme was “Sharing Real Love” we had decorated the room with hearts and heart shaped balloons and the theme of the food and drink was “Red and Pink” even extending to home-made pomegranate ice-cream which went down very well.  Our guests left with pink heart shaped chocolates!  We had a most lovely evening.

30 Members arrived, we had a great night, a wonderful buffet, including heart shaped biscuits and cakes decorated with love hearts.  After supper we all made Valentines cards ready to post today.  We also made hats decorated with hearts and flowers.  It was a picture to see our members walking home down the high street, all wearing their colourful hats.  Thank you for the idea, it was our first Valentine’s party and I am sure it will not be the last.
