David did it!
He did it! David Burt, Prospects manager in the South West, completed the Great North Run in 02:26:16!
He says, "Running in The Great North run was a fantastic experience! The weather was perfect for the occasion. There were a record number of runners taking part this year, a total of 52,000. Finishing was great! with lots of support from the crowds and a fly past by the Red Arrows overhead.
With so many runners, it was difficult to get into a perfect stride round the course, so any thought of a personal best was out of the question. But it was good to have split times recorded at various points around the course: 10K in 01:06:32; 15K in 01:42:06 and 20K in 02:19:05.
Running in such a big event enables ordinary people to raise money for so many different charities, many of them already well known and others not so well known. The challenge for me was in the distance, not having run a half marathon for 4 years! The other challenge and more important, was the opportunity to raise money for the work of Prospects so that the lives of people with learning disabilities particularly, continue to be enriched as a result of the work that Prospects undertakes.
Thank you to all those who supported me to achieve my target."
There is still time to sponsor David, so if you have not had a chance to visit his fundraising web page at: www.justgiving.com/davidburt1
Prospects congratulates David for his achievement and we thank him enormously for his support.
God bless David, Well done!
