Today there are an estimated 1.5 million people in the United Kingdom with a learning disability, more than the number of full-time students in tertiary education in our universities. Babies are born each week with learning disabilities, the Government estimates at a prevalence of 2.5% of the population. They are born into all stratas of society; there are no social, intellectual or financial indicators.
The mission of the church
Many churches find the basis for their mission work in the Great Commission and the example set by the Lord Jesus. Matthew 28:19, 20 says "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations (people groups), baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." This surely challenges us to ensure that no group of people is neglected as we reach out into our communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Volunteering
Prospects is looking for volunteers who can give their time and skills on a regular or occasional basis, adding value and scope to what the Charity can achieve.
Prayerfully
Prospects has always acknowledged its dependence on God for every aspect of its work and all provision for it. The Charity's work must be underpinned by prayer for it to be effective.

Prospects exists to transform the lives of people with learning disabilities and their communities through professional and voluntary services and resources that express the practical love of Jesus Christ.
