The mission of the church

Many churches find the basis for their mission work in the Great Commission and the example set by the Lord Jesus. Matthew 28:19, 20 says "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations (people groups), baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." This surely challenges us to ensure that no group of people is neglected as we reach out into our communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

In his lifetime, Jesus was unusual for giving his attention to vulnerable people. He spoke with them. He took time to hear their stories. He showed them the love and respect no one else had ever given them. And he told his followers to do the same. He said, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you do for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you do for me.’

Prospects’ mission partner programme is designed to support churches in their outreach and ministry among people regardless of their ability. With resource materials and training, advice and encouragement, churches can be equipped for effective outreach, ministry and discipleship among people with learning disabilities.
