Could you volunteer for 2 weeks?
Casa Silvia is home to 6 children with learning disabilities and autism in Marghita in Romania.
Last year six volunteers helped out in the project during the Summer. Brenda the housemother was particularly appreciative of their help and support. Thank you to Arthur, Marilyn, Leah, Susan, Sarah and Pippa.
Here is Sarah’s account of her experience volunteering, ‘I volunteered to go to Romania with Prospects after seeing it posted on the jobs board at Spring harvest. I had never done any work abroad before and thought it would a new and exciting challenge and I was not wrong. We stayed in Romania for 2 weeks in the volunteer home. We worked at Casa silvia, a home for special needs children. We were very nervous to begin with but on the first day we got thrown in the paddling pool with all our clothes on, after that I knew we were going to have a great experience. The children were lovely and we had great fun working with them. We could see the difference we made just in the two weeks we were there by taking them for walks, and doing painting, crafts and cooking. It is amazing to see all the work that is going on in this small part of Romania and I now know I was part of that and made a difference even if a small one, just by giving up 2 weeks to spend with the children’
Julia, a nurse from the South West and a long term friend of the project has decided to spend a little longer this year. Pray for her as she volunteers alongside the staff team initially for 6 weeks in Spring 2008.
