At the Keswick Convention
Release date: 7th August 2011
The theme of the whole Keswick Convention this year was mission. At the special celebrations in Week 2 we spent two days learning about how Jesus said “Come!” and then three days on how Jesus said “Go!”.
On the first day we had a drama of Jesus calling Peter, James and John to “Come!” the empty fishing net which was thrown out from the boat was full of fish when it was pulled in! On the second day a small group worked together to make a musical instrument, with each person in the group doing part of the task. Nobody in the group did everything needed to make the musical instrument, but everyone’s part was needed. In the same way Jesus asks us to “Come!” and play our part in his plan.
In the afternoon we all had great fun making different musical instruments.
Jesus told stories called parables to people. Parables are stories which seem to be about one thing, but which Jesus told to help us think about something more important than the thing they seem to be about.
On the third day we had a visit from Abigail, a lady from the time of Jesus, who told us about the parable of the Lost Coin. Everybody then wrote on a bright red chocolate coin the name of someone they know who doesn’t yet know about Jesus, and we prayed for them they are some of the people that Jesus asks us to “Go!” to.
The next day we remembered that Jesus sends his Holy Spirit to help us “Go!”. We prayed for the people who were at the celebration, that the Holy Spirit would help them as they played their part in God’s plan. On the last day we thought about different ways that Jesus asks us to “Go!”. Some people he asks to “Go!” and tell about his love, and others he asks to “Go!” and show his love in practical ways.
Everyone at the celebration was given a card to send back to Prospects to tell us about someone that they had asked to “Come!” with them so that they could find out more about Jesus.
People who took part in the Prospects celebrations were invited to the main stage at the Convention and shared testimonies and a song they had learned. Here's the video!
