Choosing staff

Release date: 13th April 2012

2012-04 Darren choosing staff1In a recent Prospectstimes Newsletter for the people we support, we featured a story to show how much people Prospects supports have been involved in choosing the staff who support them each day. On Darren's request, here is the story for everyone to see!

"Some people, like Darren in North Wales have been very involved in interviewing people for the new role of Practice Manager. In this photo (right) Darren has just finished interviewing Nichola from Somerset. He travelled to Northern Ireland, Reading, Bristol and Liverpool to take part in all the interviews!   Darren had his own set of questions which he marked, giving people between 1 and 5 for their answers.

2012-04 Darren choosing staff2"He also looked at things like how smart people were dressed and if they looked at him or his Support Worker. In this photo (left) Darren is preparing his notes with Rob, his support worker. But there are other ways people can help choose their own staff. Some people invite the candidates to their house or to Day Opportunities for a cup of tea and a chat.

2012-04 Forum choosing staff"This is a good way to see if you like the person and if you think they would be good at supporting you. You can also get together with people you live with and talk about what sort of things are important to you for your staff to have. For example it might be important to have staff who can use sign language."

At Prospects, we think it is very important that people get to choose who supports them. We take this seriously and work to enable everyone to have as much choice as possible.
