What would we do without them?
Our volunteers amaze us daily, with their willingness at such a tender age to leave home - wherever this may be - to come and work as support workers on a voluntary basis. It is humbling to see them work so hard and display true love and care for the people we support, giving personal care, which cannot be an easy task for someone who has had no children.
We keep in touch with them so that we can pray for them if they need us to. As such, we have discovered that 90% of our volunteers either enter university for the first time for a career in social care or health, or continue with their studies at University in other fields if they came after completing their first degree. We are firmly convinced that the Lord rewards them for their service with Prospects as they return home after volunteering with us.
Take Vitoria, one ex-volunteer, a wonderful young lady from Brazil. The Lord opened doors for her after her placement with us: she found employment in a five star hotel because she had learned to speak and write English during her year with us. It was a big break through for her because, she exclaimed, you don’t just get a job in that hotel unless your English skills are excellent! She was able thereafter to enter University to do the degree of her choice, because her English had improved so much that she became more assertive in many ways.
My encouragement to our volunteers who are still waiting upon the Lord to do something special for them is that; as we have seen from the experience of our past volunteers, just keep doing the work the Lord has given you to do through Prospects. Do it with all your heart and mind and soul, without trying to prove anything to anybody. The Lord who sees in secret will reward you openly. Our volunteers never try to impress anybody, but carry out their support activities with sincerity, whether noticed and appreciated or not. No wonder the Lord who sees in secret has rewarded them openly!
