Prospects - Working with Adults with Learning Disabilities

Ulster Team Leaving Zambia!

Ulster - Chris-Harry-Jul07Our two heroes, Harry and Chris, are having the time of their lives as they continue their epic journey through Africa - from Belfast, South Africa, to Belfast, Northern Ireland.  On the way, there are rivers to be conquered, long roads, hot days, cold nights, sunny skies, friendly people and, in a few places, potholes bigger than garden ponds!

Certainly, the two aren't starving as the many friendly people they encounter show their hospitality.

Chris' mother, Hilary Watson, says:

"Ulster - Chris-microlighting-Jul07When Harry came up with the idea of driving home to Northern Ireland I thought it was a great idea and time for him to fulfil a boyhood dream.  When he suggested taking Chris with him, as a mother and at times an over-protective mother, I was not so sure but within a short space of time I had peace about Chris joining in as he is fit, capable and increasingly able to fend for himself.  He is a fun loving young man who loves adventure, as can be seen from his micro-lighting photograph.  Chris seems to realise that he has the potential to be successful in life but has not yet found the means or the method to fulfil this.  When he completes this trip with the challenges that it throws his way, using his hidden capabilities he will realise that he will also be able to fulfil his dream - to work in a restaurant preparing and cooking food.

When Harry and I first heard of Prospects and met with two of the Northern Ireland Prospects team in November last year we were both impressed with the work that they do to empower people with learning disabilities and consider it a privilege to partner with them with the aim of raising more awareness."

Please continue to support the Prospects Virtual Team in our little Landrover as the Watsons are now well on their way and about to cross the border into Tanzania soon!
