All About . . . . supporting people

The government says

“All people with learning disabilities have the right to lead their lives like any others, with the same opportunities and responsibilities, with the right support to make this possible and to be treated with the same dignity and respect.”

We say

“Prospects is a Christian voluntary organisation which values and supports people with learning disabilities so that they live their lives to the full, supporting people to live as independently as possible and enable them to realise their potential.”

Our Principle of Personal Value (PPV) underpins everything we do and, for over three decades, Prospects has provided support within day, residential and supported living settings. Supporting people of all faiths or none, but especially seeking to provide support within a Christian environment for those that want it, we aim to be person-centred, meeting the needs of those we support and helping each one achieve their aspirations.

We seek to make a real difference to people’s lives . . .

Darren said, “I’ve lived here for seven years. I used to have 24 hours support – cooking, shopping, cleaning – now I only need 7 hours. Mike and Robin, my support workers, put me in touch with a church. I became a Christian . . . .it’s given me a lot of self confidence. Now I do volunteer work at an old people’s home, washing up and serving teas”

Here is a video of when Darren talked to Prospects staff about the difference our support has made in his life.

We are committed to helping those with a learning disability to have their voices heard and, through our National Forum for example, we are making this a reality.

The information in this section explain a little further about what Prospects does in supporting individuals to “live their lives to the full” – I trust that you will find this of interest and of use and invite you to contact us if you would like to know more, to support us in our work, or indeed if you know of someone who would like to receive our support.
